Video Content Management - Sharing Videos in My Media with Others

Introduction

Kaltura is the cloud-based video management system behind My Media and Media Gallery, which are Canvas LTI tools. Note that:

  • Kaltura appears in some places in My Media and Media Gallery and in the company's documentation and user guides.
  • Course Gallery is how you access Media Gallery in Canvas.

The Kaltura Video App for Canvas User Guide has full instructions on using My Media and Media Gallery. The instructions here are specific to Virginia Tech. To see other Kaltura topics, please click on the guide for your role:

This article covers how to share videos with other Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students for collaboration.

Instructions

You can collaborate with others on your videos. If you add collaborators, you can decide if they can edit videos, publish them, or just view them.

  • To share a video with another person, you must add them as a collaborator in My Media - even if they're in your Canvas site.
  • Co-owned videos will appear in all owners' My Media.
  • Edits made by any owner will affect the video.

Copying a Video

Before you add collaborators, you can make a copy of your video to keep it for yourself. Storage in Kaltura is unlimited, so don't worry about using up memory.

  1. In My Media on Canvas or video.vt.edu, click on the media thumbnail or title to go to the video.
  2. Click Actions, then Launch Editor
  3. At the top right of the screen, click Save a Copy
