Introduction
This article describes how to log into the Virginia Tech Slack workspace through your browser and the desktop app after you have received a slack license from the school. This article will also detail how to access Virginia Tech's Slack workspace from a different workspace.

Accessing the Virginia Tech Workspace in a Browser
- Visit Virginia Tech's Slack Workspace. You must access Virginia Tech's workspace through the Virginia Tech Slack URL that is linked above. Attempting to enter Virginia Tech's workspace through any of Slack's direct login screens or through an invite from another user will not work.
- Select Sign in with VT Login.
- Enter your Virginia Tech username and passphrase, and complete two factor authentication.
Downloading the Slack Desktop Application
- Go to the download page for Slack.
- Select the Download button. Your operating system will be automatically detected.
- Double click the exe file (Windows) or drag the dmg file to Applications (macOS) in your browser downloads tab.
- Once Slack has finished downloading, you will be taken to a sign in page for the application.
Accessing the Virginia Tech Workspace in the Desktop Application for Windows
- Wait for Slack to finish downloading and when the sign in page appears select Sign in to Slack.
- The application will take you to your web browser. If you are already signed in to slack there, you will be asked to choose which workspaces to include in the desktop application.
- If you are not already signed in, you will be asked to enter an email to continue. Enter your Virginia Tech email address and select Sign in with email.
- You will be sent an email with a 6-digit code. Enter the code and you will be automatically taken to another screen where you can choose which workspaces to include in you Slack desktop application.
- Select the checkbox next to the Virginia Tech workspace.
- Select Open.
- If a pop up appears stating "The site is trying to open in Slack", select Open.
Accessing the Virginia Tech Workspace from another Slack Workspace
- From the Slack Workspace you are currently in, select the title of the workspace to pull up the workspace dropdown menu.
- Hover over Add workspaces.
- Select Sign into another workspace.
- Select Or sign into a new workspace here, located below your other workspaces.
- You will be taken to a sign in page for Slack. Refer back to Accessing the Virginia Tech Workspace in the Desktop Application for Windows, and complete the steps to add the Virginia Tech workspace to your desktop app.
Accessing the Virginia Tech Workspace from your mobile device
- Download the Slack app onto your mobile device and open it.
- Click Sign In.
- Click Sign In with Workspace URL.
- Enter “virginiatech” such that the URL reads, https://virginiatech.slack.com.
- Click Next.
- Click Sign in with VT Login.
- You will be directed to Virginia Tech’s login page, where you will sign in using your Virginia Tech username and passphrase.
- Review the consent to release your data.
- If you accept, click Accept, else Reject. If you reject, you cannot use Slack on your mobile device with your Virginia Tech credentials.
