What is the best course of action for a user who wants to transfer ownership of files from their OneDrive to someone else?
Virginia Tech does not administratively manage OneDrive files because OneDrive is intended as a personal file storage solution. As such, it falls to the user to share out files in that location as part of their offboarding process. Please visit Transferring Data from OneDrive for more information on how to share out files.
Ideally, departmental resources should not be stored within OneDrive, but instead placed on a collaborative resource such as SharePoint or Teams provided by Microsoft 365. This would eliminate the need for this step in the offboarding process as the department will already have access to necessary resources.
