Accessing Virginia Tech Network-Attached Storage (NAS)

Network-attached storage (NAS) was previously provided to Virginia Tech faculty and staff. The NAS service will be discontinued.

Finding Network-Attached Storage Location

To connect to your NAS from your computer, you must know your NAS space location.

  1. Go to OneCampus
  2. At the top of the page, type admin in the search bar.
  3. Click ADAdmin.
  4. Log in with your Hokies ID and password.
  5. Click the arrow next to Storage then click View/Edit Storage
  6. If View/Edit Storage is greyed out, you have not created a NAS.
  7. Next to Location, make note of your NAS space location.

Accessing Network-Attached Storage

Mac OS

  1. At the top-left of your screen, click Finder and then click Preferences.
  2. Check the Connected servers check box.
  3. At the top-left of your screen, click Go then click Connect to Server.
    • To access your personal NAS:
      1. Type cifs://storage.vt.edu/ABC/XYZ in the Server Address text box.
      2. Replace ABC with mystore or mystore2 depending on your Finding Location of Network-Attached Storage
      3. Replace XYZ with your Hokies ID.
    • To access a department's NAS:
      1. Type cifs://storage.vt.edu/ABC in the Server Address text box.
      2. Replace ABC with your department's NAS name.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Click Registered User.
  6. Type HOKIES\ABC in the Name text box.
  7. Replace ABC with your Hokies ID.
  8. Type your Hokies password in the Password text box.
  9. Click Connect. A NAS icon will appear on your desktop.

Windows

  1. At the bottom-left of your screen, click Start.
  2. Type: computer.
  3. Click This PC.
  4. At the top of the window, click Computer and click Map network drive.
    • To access your personal NAS: 
      1. Type: \\storage.vt.edu\ABC\XYZ in the Folder text box.
      2. Replace ABC with mystore or mystore2 depending on your storage location
      3. Replace XYZ with your Hokies ID.
    • To access a department's NAS:
      1. Type: \\storage.vt.edu\ABC in the Folder text box.
      2. Replace ABC with the department's NAS name.
    • To access a Google Group, type: \\storage.vt.edu\GGbulkadd\ABC in the Folder text box.
  5. If you want the drive to be mapped each time you log in, check the Reconnect at sign-in check box.
  6. If you are not logged into the computer with your Hokies account, check the Connect using different credentials check box.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Type: Hokies\ABC in the Username text box.
  9. Replace ABC with your Hokies ID.
  10. Type your Hokies password in the Password text box.
  11. Click OK.
