Disabling Local Sync
- Be sure you are logged into your Virginia Tech Microsoft 365 (M365) account.
- In the windows notification tray, locate the OneDrive for Business icon. You may need to click the Show hidden icons button. If you do not see this icon, you are not currently syncing.
- In the window that appears, click Settings. In Windows 11, click the Gear icon in the upper right.
- You may need to click on the More button to see this option.
- In the Microsoft OneDrive window, click on the Account tab.
- Beside the desired folder, select Stop sync. In windows 11, click on Choose folders then deselect Make all files available.
- Your files should now permanently stop syncing to your local drive.

Temporarily Pause Syncing
- Be sure you are logged into your Virginia Tech M365 account.
- In the windows notification tray, locate the OneDrive for Business icon. You may need to click the Show hidden icons button. If you do not see this icon, you are not currently syncing.
- In the window that appears, click on the Pause synching select box. In Windows 11, you need to click on the Gear icon.
- Note: You may need to click on the More button to see this option.
- Click on the desired number of hours you wish to pause your file sync.
This only temporarily stops your files from syncing. If you wish to stop the sync permanently, see the previous option.
