CALS - Installing Microsoft 365


Introduction

Microsoft 365 is available to College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) faculty/staff for installation on up to five personal computers and five mobile devices.

For Virginia Tech-owned computers in CALS please install Office 2019 Pro Plus from Network Software instead of Microsoft 365.

Note

It is recommended to uninstall any installations of Microsoft Office prior to installing Microsoft 365.

Instructions

Installing Microsoft 365

  1. In a web browser go to the Virginia Tech Office 365 portal.
  2. When prompted for a username, enter your Virginia Tech email address.
    Example: joe_user@vt.edu
  3. Enter your Virginia Tech account and password.
  4. In the upper-right corner, click Install Office, and then Microsoft 365 apps.
  5. The setup application will download automatically.
  6. After the file has downloaded, double-click the file to start the installation.
  7. Click Accept and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Installing Microsoft 365 on Your Mobile Device

  1. From the device you want to install on, go to the Virginia Tech Office 365 portal.
  2. When prompted for a username, enter your Virginia Tech email address.
    Example: joe_user@vt.edu
  3. Enter your Virginia Tech account and password.
  4. In the upper-right corner, click Install Office, and then Other install options.
  5. Follow the instructions under Get Office on your phone or tablet.

Managing Your Microsoft 365 Licenses

If you have reached your limit of five licenses, you can remove devices by:

  1. In a web browser go to the Virginia Tech Office 365 portal.
  2. When prompted for a user name, enter your Virginia Tech email address.
    Example: joe_user@vt.edu
  3. Enter your Virginia Tech account and password.
  4. In the upper-right corner, click Install Office, and then Other install options.
  5. Under Office apps & devices click View apps and Devices.
  6. Click the arrow labeled Devices to see a list of devices Microsoft 365 is installed on.
  7. In the device list click Sign Out next to a device to deactivate the Microsoft 365 license and make it available for use on another computer.
