Installing Mathematica for Students


Introduction

Mathematica is made available at no additional cost to students that are currently enrolled in courses at Virginia Tech. Access to specific downloads may be found at Network Software.

Wolfram 14.1.0 - macOS

Installing Wolfram

  1. Access Network Software and login using your VT Username (PID) and password. Click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) Software to expand the menu and scroll down and click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) 14.1.0 macOS download for students.
  2. After reviewing the license agreements, click the download link on the next page and save the downloaded file to your desktop. **Do not click Open when downloading the file.**
  3. Double-click the downloaded file and when the setup window appears, drag the Wolfram icon to the Applications folder to install.

Activating Wolfram

  1. The first time you launch Wolfram you will be required to activate.  Click Continue under Sign In to Activate Your Product to start activation.  This will open a browser window that will allow you to log in to Wolfram.
    Click Sign In under Activate through your organization (SSO)
  2. Once the browser window opens, enter your VT email address in the field and click Continue.
    Enter your VT email and click Continue
  3. Now, sign in with your Virginia Tech PID and password, followed by two factor authentication.
  4. On the following screen, ensure that Mathematica is selected as the license you want to activate, and then click Activate.
  5. Once activation is complete, you can close the browser window and begin using Mathematica.

Wolfram 14.1.0 - Windows

Installing Wolfram

  1. Access Network Software and login using your VT Username (PID) and password. Click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) Software to expand the menu and scroll down and click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) 14.1.0 Windows download for students.
  2. After reviewing the license agreements, click the download link on the next page and save the downloaded file to your desktop. **Do not click Open when downloading the file.**
  3. Double-click the downloaded file and when the setup window appears, click Next to proceed.
  4. Leave the default installation location and click Next.
  5. On the Select Components screen, ensure Install all components (recommended) is selected and click Next.
  6. On the Start Menu Folder window, click Next.
  7. On the Ready to Install window, click Install to begin the installation.
  8. When the installation is complete, click Finish to launch Mathematica.

Activating Wolfram

Installing Mathematica

  2. After reviewing the license agreements, click the download link on the next page and save the downloaded file to your desktop. **Do not click Open when downloading the file.**
  3. Double-click the downloaded file and when the setup window appears, drag the Mathematica icon to the Applications icon to install.

  7. Once you have passed through two factor authentication, you'll need to accept the licensing terms.  When you see the message below, you can close your browser and start using Mathematica.Sign in successful message

Mathematica 13.3.1 - Windows

Installing Mathematica

  1. Access Network Software and login using your VT Username (PID) and password. Click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) Software to expand the menu and scroll down and click Wolfram (formerly Mathematica) 13.3.1 Windows download for Students.
  2. After reviewing the license agreements, click the download link on the next page and save the file to your desktop. Do not click Open when downloading the file; save the file to your desktop.
  3. Navigate to the location on your hard drive where the downloaded file was saved and double-click it to begin installation.

  4. When the setup window appears, click Next.
  5. Leave the default installation location and click Next.
  6. On the Select Components screen, ensure Install all components (recommended) is selected and click Next.

  7. On the Start Menu Folder window, click Next.
  8. On the Ready to Install window, click Install to begin the installation.
  9. When the installation is complete, click Finish to launch Mathematica.
