Sending Email to Random Sample of Virginia Tech Addresses

Introduction

This article describes the policies and procedures for sending mass emails to a random sample of Virginia Tech addresses.

Instructions

In general, unsolicited emailing is prohibited at Virginia Tech. For more information, refer to the Acceptable Use Guidelines. Specifically pay attention to the sections about not using email or messaging services to harass or intimidate another person and about not wasting computing resources.

If a user feels that their use case is acceptable, they should submit a 4Help ticket describing what they want to do and the specific reason for the request.

If a user is planning research that involves humans as research subjects, they must have approval from the Institutional Review Board for Research Involving Human Subjects (IRB). Keep in mind that this applies to surveys as well. For more information, refer to the Human Research Protection Program/Institutional Review Board Web page.
