Kaltura Media Repurposing Policy

NOTE: This policy was put on hold during Summer 2024 as discussions with the vendor continue.

Kaltura media storage changes will be coming between May 12-15, 2024. Videos stored in My Media that have not been viewed in 24 months will be deleted if they have never been published to a Canvas course or a channel or collection on video.vt.edu.

What to expect: In May, video owners will start to receive email notifications 14 days prior to a video's removal. To retain a file, you just need to play it for 15 seconds. No action is needed if the video should be deleted.

To reduce the number of future email messages you may receive about this policy,

To check which videos are published on Canvas and which ones are not:

  1. Go to Canvas and log in with your Virginia Tech Username (PID) and passphrase.
  2. Click Media on the global navigation menu on the left.
  3. Scroll down the list to see which videos are published and which ones are private.
  4. Click Published to see where you've published the video.
