Kaltura is the cloud-based video management system behind My Media and Media Gallery, which are Canvas LTI tools. Note that:
- Kaltura appears in some places in My Media and Media Gallery and in the company's documentation and user guides.
- Course Gallery is how you access Media Gallery in Canvas.

Background on My Media and My Gallery in Canvas
- Upload and store unlimited multimedia content.
- Automatically generate captions for videos your instructor has shared.
- Record and edit videos on your computer using Kaltura Capture software.
- Record video assignments and submit them to Canvas.

Media Gallery
Kaltura Media Repurposing Policy
Kaltura media storage changes will be coming between May 12-15, 2024. Videos stored in My Media that have not been viewed in 24 months will be deleted if they have never been published to a Canvas course or a channel or collection on video.vt.edu.
What to expect: In May, video owners will start to receive email notifications 14 days prior to a video's removal. To retain a file, you just need to play it for 15 seconds. No action is needed if the video should be deleted.
To reduce the number of future email messages you may receive about this policy,
- Delete unneeded files ahead of time.
- When a Zoom cloud recording is automatically added to My Media, delete it if you don't need it.
- Spend some time managing your files by playing the ones that aren't published in Canvas or in a channel or collection on video.vt.edu for 15 seconds.
To check which videos are published on Canvas and which ones are not,
- Go to Canvas and log in with your Virginia Tech PID and passphrase.
- Click on My Media on the global navigation menu on the left.
- Scroll down the list to see which videos are published and which ones are private.
- Click on Published to see where you've published the video.
