Instructions
Google Drive for desktop's Duo authentication may crash when presenting the two-factor login screen. The result is that Drive for desktop is installed, but the user is unable to log in. If someone has encountered this issue, they have two options at their disposal:
Troubleshooting Drive for desktop Duo Authentication
- Remove the registered token from the account. Please reference the article Using 2-Factor Authentication for instructions.
- Adjust settings to force Drive for desktop to authenticate using a full browser window instead of the small login window. Please reference the instructions below to adjust your settings:
- For Windows machines,
- Open the Windows registry
- Drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Google\DriveFS
- Add DWORD value
- Name it ForceBrowserAuth
- Change the value to 1
- Reboot
- For Mac machines,
- Open a Terminal window
- Run the following command defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.google.drivefs.settings ForceBrowserAuth -bool true
