Instructions

Don't Have Account

  1. If you are a Virginia Tech student, faculty, or staff, instead of these instructions, connect to the eduroam wireless network by following the instructions at Connecting to eduroam (Virginia Tech Wireless).
  2. On your mobile device or computer, connect to the VirginiaTech wireless network.
  3. Start a Web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
  4. In the Web browser, go to the guest wireless portal.
  5. If prompted about the website may not be private, follow the prompts to proceed to the website.
  6. Click Guest.
  7. Click Create a new guest wireless account.
  8. Create your account.
    1. In the Your Name: text box, type your first and last name.
    2. In the Mobile Phone Number: text box, type your 10-digit phone number including the area code.
      (If you do not have access to a mobile phone or can't receive SMS text messages, see the FAQs below.)
    3. In the Username (Email Address): text box, type your email address, including the information after the @ symbol.
    4. Click Register.
  9. If you want your password sent to the email address you provided in addition to being sent as an SMS text message, click Email receipt to ABC link, where ABC will be the email address you provided.
  10. The password will be sent as an SMS text message to the phone number you provided.

  11. Connect to the network.
    1. Click Connect.
    2. Verify that the Username: text box contains the email address you provided earlier.
    3. In the Password: text box, type the six-digit numeric code sent to you in an SMS text message or email.
    4. After reading the acceptable use policy, check the I accept the terms of the Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policy box.
    5. Click Log In. When the connection is complete, you will see the Welcome to the Virginia Tech guest wireless network page.

Have Account

  1. If you are a Virginia Tech student, faculty, or staff, connect to the eduroam wireless network instead by following the instructions at Connecting to eduroam (Virginia Tech Wireless).

  6. Click Guest.
  7. Click Login to guest wireless.
  8. In the Username: text box type the email address you provided when you created an account or the username you were given.
  9. In the Password: text box, type the six-digit numeric code sent to you in an SMS text message or email when you created an account or the password you were given.

  10. After reading the acceptable use policy, check the I accept the terms of the Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policy box.
  11. Click Log In. When the connection is complete, you will see the Welcome to the Virginia Tech guest wireless network page.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Did Not Receive SMS Text Message with Password

Virginia Tech is known for its picturesque Hokie stone buildings. Unfortunately, Hokie stone can impact cellular coverage within buildings, and you may not receive the SMS with your password. Usually, moving closer to windows or going outside the building to improve your signal will allow the text message to be delivered. If you still do not receive the text message, you have the following options:

Forgot Password

If you have a non-sponsored account, you should re-register to get a new password. If you have a sponsored account, talk to your sponsor.

Cannot Connect with My Other Devices

The non-sponsored guest service is limited to two devices per guest.

Error about Account Has Expired

Register again by following the instructions under Don't Have Account.

Who to Contact about Getting a Sponsored Account

Contact an Information Technology representative in the Virginia Tech department that you are visiting.

Device Is Incapable of SMS or Do Not Want to Use SMS
