This article describes
FEs are forwarding email objects comprised of public facing @vt.edu addresses. These addresses forward emails to other email addresses such as Personal Access for Collaborative Email (PACE) accounts. FEs are often used to make a NAMEfirstname.lastname@example.org resource account possess a NAME@vt.edu email address that was more presentable to the outside/external world.
FEs are special Google Group objects that contain both their original forwarding addresses and the owner (the original requestor) of the FE accounts as members of the Google Group.
The only FE Google group members that can exist in the group are 1) the owner and 2) the recipient address (to which it is forwarded). It is disallowed by policy to add other members to the group for several reasons; the primary one being it gets things out of sync with Virginia Tech’s Enterprise Directory and the FE concept/ownership in general. In most cases the other member is an exchange account (recipient address) so that object does not exist in the google world and hence has no associated subscription.
If changes do need to be made to the FE, please submit a 4Help ticket to Identify Management Customer Support (IMCS). Do not attempt to change the settings of a FE Google Group directly as the replication process from Virginia Tech’s Enterprise Directory will overwrite your changes with the next update.
By default, the FE owner will receive a copy of emails sent to the associated account. If an owner does not wish to not receive these emails, then they can change their FE Google Group subscription settings to “no email” at https://groups.google.com/my-groups.
If owners are still using the “Classic Groups” view, they can change the option beside each group in their Google “My groups” section to “Don’t send email updates.”
