Instructions

In Slack, timezone settings are configured on a per-user basis only. If a user is traveling outside of their normal time zone, setting their current local time within Slack will make sure that their Slack reminders and Do Not Disturb hours happen in their current local time.

To configure Slack timezone settings from within a web browser:

Log into https://virginiatech.slack.com and follow the instructions on this page: https://get.slack.help/hc/en-us/articles/219889247-Change-your-time-zone

If using the installed Slack desktop application:

  1. Click on the account avatar at the top right.
  2. Select Profile.

  3. At the right select Edit.

  4. In the window that appears, locate the Time Zone drop down box and choose the appropriate time zone
  5. Click Save Changes.

Please remain aware that other users within a workspace may not be in same time zone and exercise discretion over the use of the Slack announcements feature including @everyone or @channel.
