Creating New Assignments in Plagiarism Framework

  1. In the course navigation menu click Assignments.

  2. Click +Assignment.

  3. Name the assignment and add a description.
  4. Set Points, Assignment Group, and what you want the grade to be displayed as.
  5. Set the Submission Type to Online.
  6. Check Text Entry or File Uploads
  7. After you set the submission type, the Plagiarism Review drop-down will appear. Click Turnitin.

  8. Choose Turnitin Plagiarism Framework settings. The settings are the same as in Feedback Studio.
    • Set the Similarity Report settings.
    • Set how you want the assignment to be checked.

  9. Set the assignment due date.
  10. Click Save.

Switching Feedback Studio Assignments to Plagiarism Framework

  1. Open the assignments tool and click [...]->Edit.

  2. In the popup click More Options.

  3. Scroll down to the Submission Type.
  4. Change the submission type from External Tool to Online.
    • If you don't want to use Turnitin, scroll down and click Save. You are done.
    • To add Turnitin-Plagiarism Framework to the assignment, go to the next step.
  5. Check Text Entry or File Uploads.
  6. After you set the submission type, the Plagiarism Review drop-down will appear. Click Turnitin.

  7. Choose Turnitin Plagiarism Framework settings. The settings are the same as in Feedback Studio.
    • Set the Similarity Report settings.
    • Set how you want the assignment to be checked.

  8. Scroll down and click Save.

Accessing Similarity Reports and Grading Plagiarism Framework (for Instructors)

  1. Open the assignment you want to grade.
  2. Under Related Items on the right side, click SpeedGrader.

  3. SpeedGrader will open in a new tab. Click the colored percentage bubble next to the View drop-down or Assessment grade entry box.

  4. The Turnitin Similarity Report will open in another new tab.

    In the Similarity Report, you can:

    • See sources similar to the student's work and their percent similarity.
    • Exclude the bibliography, quotes, or sources from the report. 
    • See grammar and writing errors.
    • See Interpreting Similarity Reports below for more.

  5. After reviewing the Similarity Report, go back to SpeedGrader, add any comments, and enter a grade in the box below Assessment.
  6. To view other students' work, click the arrows in the top right of SpeedGrader, then click the Turnitin colored percentage bubble to see their Similarity Reports.
  7. When you're done grading, close the SpeedGrader tab and go back to Canvas.

Accessing Similarity Reports (for Students)

  1. Go to the course where you submitted a Plagiarism Framework assignment and click Grades.
  2. Look for the name of the assignment and click the box for similarity reports.

  3. Your Similarity Report will open. Turnitin will offer a tour of its features, which you can close.

  1. Access the Similarity Report. See:
  2. The Similarity Report has two sections: Similarity and e-rater® (writing). Similarity feedback is in red, and writing feedback is in purple.
