Introduction
This article describes a possible solution when trying to log into a Microsoft resource and being asked to authenticate with Microsoft Authenticator.
Instructions
The steps below can help you set up your authentication to work with Microsoft Authenticator. It does require that you have a phone authentication mechanism set up with Duo. If you do not have a phone option, please make sure that it is set up first. These instructions might help.
- On a computer go to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.
- Sign in and approve the Duo prompt.
- When asked to verify your identity, select "Text + X XXXXXXX" to receive a code sent as a text to the number they provide.
- You may have to select, “I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.” To be able to get a different option such as the text option.
- Text option is "Use a verification code".
- On the Security info page, add a new sign-in method by clicking on the button “Add sign-in method” and choose Microsoft Authenticator, then complete setup. This will walk you through setting up the Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.
- Delete any other Microsoft Authenticator options that you are duplicated or unknown.
