Troubleshooting Time Zone issues with Bookings Calendar

Introduction

This article describes some common issues seen with the Bookings calendar displaying incorrect time zones for appointments.

Explanation

This issue usually happens because Microsoft Bookings uses the time zone settings of the calendar and the browser/device, and if those don’t match or aren’t configured correctly, the appointment can appear in the wrong time zone. Here are the most common reasons:

Bookings Calendar Time Zone

The Bookings service itself has a default time zone set in its configuration. If this is different from Virginia Tech’s or the user’s Outlook calendar time zone, the appointment will display incorrectly.

Browser or Device Time Zone

Bookings often detects time zone based on the browser or device settings of the person booking the appointment. If the person’s device is set to a different time zone (or uses automatic detection incorrectly), the appointment confirmation will reflect that.

Outlook/Exchange Time Zone

The person’s Outlook calendar time zone determines how the appointment appears on their end. If their Outlook is set to Eastern Time but Bookings is set to UTC or Central, there will be a mismatch.

Booker vs. Bookie View

Customers see times based on their local time zone. Staff see times based on their own calendar time zone. If either side is misconfigured, it looks “wrong” to one party.

Some Potential Solutions

  • Check Bookings page settings → Business Information → Time Zone.
  • Verify Outlook time zone in Outlook settings.
  • Ensure browser/device time zone is correct for both parties.
  • If using Bookings with Teams, confirm Teams time zone matches Outlook.
