What is Wi-Fi Calling?
Wi-Fi calling is a feature on smart devices that allows you to make or receive phone calls with only a W-Fi connection rather than using cellular data. See below for different carrier guides on this service.
How to Enable Wi-Fi Calling
Before enabling Wi-Fi calling, follow the procedures here to connect your device to eduroam (VT wireless).
For iPhone:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cellular
- Go to Wi-Fi Calling
- Be sure to review your carrier’s information on emergency calling, then tap on the button next to “Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone”
- Tap Enable
- Enter you emergency address
- Read the message about 911 calls over Wi-Fi and the terms and conditions. Agree and continue.
- Wi-Fi calling is now enabled on your device. A new button to update your emergency address will appear below. Make sure to update this whenever needed.

For Android:
- Open the phone app.
- Tap More
Settings.
- Tap Calls (or Network & Internet)
- Tap Wi-Fi calling. If you don’t see this option, it’s because your carrier or device doesn’t support this feature.
- Choose to enable/disable Wi-Fi calling on this screen.
- Enter your emergency address location per the instructions that will appear on the screen.
- Once you’ve set up Wi-Fi calling, you can make a call over Wi-Fi just like any other call. When you are connected to the internet, you’ll see "Internet Call" or "Wi-Fi calling" on the notification screen. When you are not connected to Wi-Fi, your calls will use your mobile carrier, if you have one.
