ESRI ArcGIS - Student Install Instructions


 

This software is made available at no additional cost to students that are currently enrolled in courses at Virginia Tech. Access to specific downloads may be found at https://network.software.vt.edu.

Installation Instructions

  1. Go to http://network.software.vt.edu and log in with your PID/Password. Select ESRI ArcGIS 10.8.2 Desktop Student from the list of available software.
  2. Accept the agreements and download the ArcGIS_Desktop_1082_student_2023-2024.exe file to your computer. When the download is complete, double click the downloaded file to begin extraction.
  3. Once extraction is complete, a new window will open with two files. Double click ArcGIS_Desktop_1082_student.exe to begin installation.

  4. In the window that pops up, leave the default destination folder and click Next.
  5. In the next window, leave launch the setup program check and click Close.

  6. When the setup begins, click Next.
  7. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  8. On the Select Installation Type window, select Complete and click Next.
  9. On the Destination Folder window, click Next.
  10. On the Python Destination folder window, click Next.
  11. On the Ready to Install the Application window, click Install to begin the installation.
  12. When the installation completes, click Finish. The ArcGIS Administrator Wizard should open automatically. Click Cancel to close it.
  13. Return to the folder with the installer and double click the Double Click after Installation to License ArcGIS file to begin activation.

  14. When the Software Authorization Wizard launches, click Next.

  15. Select Authorize with ESRI now using the Internet on the Authorization Method page, and click Next.
  16. Fill in the required fields under Authorization Information and click Next.

  17. Select the appropriate options on the next page and click Next.

  18. Leave the pre-populated Authorization Number and click Next.
  19. On the Authorize Software Extensions page, click Next unless otherwise required to do so.
  20. On the Evaluate Software Extensions page, click Next unless otherwise required to do so.
  21. Once the software has successfully authorized, click Finish.

Renewal Instructions

 

  1. Go to http://network.software.vt.edu and log in with your PID/Password. Select ESRI ArcGIS 10.x Desktop Student License Update from the list of available software.
  2. Accept the agreements and click the Download button to download the License Update file.
  3. When the download is complete, double click the downloaded file to open it and then double click the Double Click to License ArcGIS file.

  4. Click Yes in the User Account Control dialog box to allow the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard to run.

  5. When the Software Authorization Wizard launches, leave the default options and click Next.

  6. Ensure that Authorize with Esri now using the Internet is selected, and then click Next.

  7. Fill in the required fields under Authorization Information and click Next.

  8. Select the appropriate options on the next page and click Next.

  9. Leave the pre-populated Authorization Number and click Next.

  10. On the Authorize Software Extensions page, leave the default selection and click Next.
  11. On the Evaluate Software Extensions page, leave the default selection and click Next.

  12. Once the software has successfully authorized, click Finish.
