Enabling Junk Mail Filtering and Getting Back the Junk Mail Folder in Outlook

Introduction

This article describes how to change the filtering level of junk mail and to retrieve a disabled Junk Mail folder.

This setting became deprecated by Microsoft. It only works for some onprem Exchange mailboxes, which is why the setting is still visible in the Outlook Desktop. This setting is not visible in the Outlook Web App. If you can no longer see your Junk Mail folder or wish to change the level of your junk email filtering, please try the steps below.

These steps will not work for most Exchange Online mailboxes or in Outlook Web App. They might work for onprem Exchange mailboxes.

Introduction

  1. Open Outlook Desktop.
  2. Right click on an email and select the Junk item.

  3. On the menu that appears, select the Junk Email Options... menu item.

  4. On the dialog Junk Email Options - <your email> dialog, if you see No Automatic Filtering. Mail from blocked senders is still moved to the Junk Email folder. Then this is probably why our Junk Mail folder is no longer visible.

  5. Select a different filtering level to get your folder back.

  6. Click the OK button.
