Use Remote Access - VPN to Access storage.vt.edu in Windows


When off campus, to access:

from Windows, you will need (1) to first connect to the Remote Access - VPN before you can access those shares. (2)  Once you gain remote access using VPN, you need to map a network drive to connect to storage.vt.edu (or to minnow.cc.vt.edu or skipper.cc.vt.edu) – see Virginia Tech Network-Attached Storage (NAS)

Pay special attention to the section on Windows 7/8/10, step 9:

    If you are logged on to the computer with a local account:

                  A.  Choose to use different credentials.

         *   Place a check in the "Connect using different credentials" check box.

         *   Click the "Finish" button.

      1.  In the User name: text box, type: Hokies\ABC

    (Replace ABC with your own Hokies ID which is the same as your VT Username.)

      2.  In the Password: text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password.

    (If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Change or Reset Hokies Password via Account Manager.)

      3.  Click OK.

    You should now be logged in to your NAS space.
