Like email, HokieAI communications are treated by Virginia Tech’s Division of IT as private. While the technical ability to access these communications exists as part of providing the service, any access request must follow legal or university process channels.

If the Division of IT receives a court order, legal discovery request, warrant, Viginia Tech Honor Court request, or similar requirement, we must provide information within the specific scope of that request. We do not share information beyond what is required.

Individuals (faculty, staff, or students) cannot directly request access to another’s private communications.

The Division of IT takes its responsibility to steward individual and university data seriously.
